Much attention recently has focused on the umbrella of Natural Running: barefoot running, Pose Running, Chi Running, Evolution Running, mid-foot running, forefoot running, etc. Our video explains why Natural Running allows you to run faster with greater efficiency and less overuse injuries (like achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis).

Your Music Matters while Exercising

I knew it all along.  The faster the music the better I run.

4/24/2010 - Club run: "Running from Hunger" results

The weather was terrible, it was raining pretty hard before the race started and we were all pretty soaked. When we met for our pre-race prayer, the rain came to a stop and the race stayed dry for the entire time including the post race announcements.  (Coincidence?  I think not!)  We had 9 team members participate with George Lockhart finishing in 3rd place for his age group.  Way to go George!  It was fun to watch Mason and Drew sprint out to the finish line for bragging rights and the winner was...Drew!  All of us had a lot of fun and were wondering what will be our next community race that we will support as a team.  Also, I think we need to have a camera so we will be able to take pictures of George receiving his medals ;o)

As a club we were able to contribute 80 cans of food for area food pantries! The following club members participated: George & Jacob Lockhart; Rick, Ryan, Drew, Megan and Jason Floress; and Bruce & Mason Downs.

GPS your runs using "My Tracks" for Android

Last Saturday, 3 of of the ChristianMilers.org runners ran the 3 mile loop two times.  I recorded our run using "My Tracks for Andriod" on my cell phone.  My Tracks is an application for your Android^TM phone that enables you to record GPS tracks and view live statistics – such as time, speed, distance, and elevation – while hiking, biking, running or participating in other outdoor activities. Once recorded, you can share your tracks, upload them to Google Spreadsheets and visualize them on Google My Maps.

Here's the results of my run, I was not the fastest, Jacob probably finished ahaed of Rubin and myself by about 2-3 minutes. (click on the red push-pen for detail information about the run)

Another option that three of our runnners use is a Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Reciever with Heart Rate Monitor (which might be my next purchase). More information after the jump.

4/17/2010 Training Run

In only our second week as a club we had 14 people join us for our training walk/run at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Saturday morning. We had 3 walkers, 8 run 3 miles, and 3 that did 6 miles. Our group has beginners, children, people in training for ½ or full marathons, and people rehabbing from surgery. Kelly Floress led us with our pre-run prayer and many people brought water and sports drinks to share.

We would love to have you join us, as our group grows you will likely find someone that runs your pace and distance, but most importantly you will find people that you will fellowship with. Our pre-run prayer starts at 7AM sharp, so if you need to stretch please come a little early to do so before the prayer. We meet at the green storage trailer in the lower lot of the parking lot.

A Run & See Georgia certified race, 100 percent of the proceeds from this annual event benefit the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. Registration forms are currently available (click on link --PDF: Download). The fee is $20 before 4/13/09 and $25 for same day registration.

The top four runners will receive prizes as well as runners three deep, male/female, in 15 age categories. All participants will receive a custom designed T-shirt. Only those who pre-register are guaranteed T-Shirts the day of race.

Pets are invited to participate in walk; however, they must be current on vaccinations, be leashed and be in proper physical condition.

Club run: Running from Hunger

Join www.ChristianMilers.org by lacing up your running shoes and feeding the hungry all in one morning with the “Running from Hunger” 5K Race and Food Drive. ChristianMilers.org is a Catholic ministry made up of walkers and runners of all ages, both casual and competitive, who would like to further God's gift through fellowship, community service, and giving with people that share in the same faith journey.

We meet at various parks in the area, events, or community races on Saturday mornings for a pre-run prayer at 7AM and then hit the roads for our walk/run. Since our weekend training runs meet at various parks in the area please check our online Calendar or our Facebook page often for our schedule.

Everyone is welcomed to join us at anytime!  We have no membership or sign-up sheet, all you have to do is let us know you are coming so we can look out for you.
