NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton launched a campaign on Friday to help victims of Hurricane Katrina each claim thousands of dollars in tax breaks or refunds.
Clinton has assembled heavyweights from the financial services industry and traditional advocacy groups to promote the Earned Income Tax Credit, an existing tax break for the working poor that many eligible people fail to claim.
Low-income families with children can receive up to $4,400 cash back, and a post-Katrina law helps victims who may have lost eligibility to reclaim it, Clinton said. [Read more - Reuters]
