While the federal government is making a big push to repair damaged levees in the New Orleans area Terrebonne Parish is being left out because they don’t qualify for federal help.
Nearly 10,000 homes in Terrebonne were flooded during Hurricane Rita, which struck just a few weeks after Katrina devastated much of southeast Louisiana.
The seven-foot high levee that protects the town of Chauvin was shredded by Rita. Over the levee's 15-mile length, there were 32 separate breaches caused by a hurricane that was nearly 200 miles away. [Read more - 4WWL]
