San Jacinto Monument - Harris County, TX

The San Jacinto Monument is located in Deer Park which is in Harris County, Texas and is dedicated to the "Heroes of the Battle of San Jacinto and all others who contributed to the independence of Texas." The monument is a 570-foot shaft topped by a 34-foot star symbolizing the Lone Star Republic. The building incorporates a number of innovative engineering features not common during the period of its construction. The American Society of Civil Engineers recognized this technology with the prestigious designation of State and National Historic Structure. The monument is listed as the tallest stone column memorial structure in the world, 15 feet taller than the Washington Monument in Washington, DC.

Visitors can ride up the elevator to the massive concrete and limestone tower to the observation floor at 489 feet above the Battleground. On a clear day, the view encompasses the historic battleground, the marsh restoration and boardwalk, the Buffalo Bayou, the busy Houston Ship Channel, the Battleship TEXAS, and many square miles of surrounding area.

The Alamo - San Antonio, TX

The Battle of the Alamo was a battle between Mexican and Texian forces during the Texas Revolution that took place at the Alamo mission in San Antonio in February and March of 1836. The siege ended on March 6 with the capture of the mission and the death of nearly all the Texian defenders.

More than 2.5 million people a year visit the 4.2 acre complex known worldwide as "The Alamo." Most come to see the old mission where a small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against the centralist army of General Antonio López de Santa Anna.

The Alamo is open every day of the year except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Our hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Saturday, and 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Sunday.  Admission to the Alamo is free.

Dealey Plaza - Dallas, TX

Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, United States, is famous as the location of the John F. Kennedy assassination on November 22, 1963. Dealey Plaza is bounded on the south, east, and north sides by 100'+ tall buildings. One of those buildings is the Texas School Book Depository building, from where the Warren Commission concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone, fired a rifle that killed the president. There is also a grassy knoll, from where the House Select Committee on Assassinations controversially concluded that a second gunman also fired at (but missed) President Kennedy. 

Today the plaza is typically filled with tourists visiting the assassination site and the Sixth Floor Museum that now occupies the top two floors of the seven storey School Book Depository. Since 1989, some 4-million-plus people have visited Dealey Plaza.
