I got up at 5:45AM and went to Kohl’s to purchase the Nextar X3-08 GPS system for only $59.99 my parents which retails for $249.99 – that’s a savings of $190 after rebate and $20 worth of Kohl’s cash. I arrived at the store around 6:30AM and the lines were incredibly long, with every register open I had a 48 minute wait, but it was well worth it.

The Plus Four Wristlet Route Indicator, which has gone on display at a National Trust house, is thought to be the first navigation device for motorists. Eccentric invention: the Plus Four Wristlet Route Indicator's tiny interchangable paper maps seem quaint compared with their modern counterparts.
Worn like a wrist-watch, it is loaded with a tiny paper road map that is rolled across the face by adjusting two small black knobs. It comes with set route maps, such as London to Bournemouth and London to Edinburgh, and the driver winds the knobs to move the map on as their car travels further.
When motorists wish to turn off the road, they have to pull over to replace the map with another map that corresponds to a number on the junction. More info after the jump

Google launched a location service for mobile users on Wednesday that doesn't rely on GPS.
Google Maps with My Location, currently in beta, locates users who don't have GPS-enabled phones based on their location to nearby cell towers. The result isn't as accurate as GPS (Global Positioning System) but works for people who lack the positioning technology in their phones (85% phones in the US).
"It helps users speed up search by showing the general neighborhood they're in," said Steve Lee, product manager at Google for the service. Without the location service, users must type in their address or neighborhood in order to find nearby businesses using Google Maps.
